A tornado has been seen in parts of South Oxfordshire.

It was spotted forming over Benson at 6.15pm yesterday (May 16).

Pictures taken by a member of the public show the grey funnel of the tornado swirling upwards into the sky.

The UK is estimated to experience around 30 to 50 tornados each year.

Scientifically speaking, a tornado is defined as a rotating column of air which has contact with both the Earth’s surface and the clouds.

Tornadoes form when warm, humid air collides with cold, dry air.
